Apply an Open Credit to an Invoice

Applying an open credit to an invoice allows you to reduce the balance of the invoice using available credit. The credit must be lower than the total invoice amount for the process to be valid. This is a common procedure for handling customer credits that can be used to offset outstanding invoices.

To apply an open credit to an invoice:

  1. Go to Accounts Receivable > Credit Memos.

  2. Locate the open credit you want to apply.

  3. Use the three dots icon (more options) and select Apply to an Invoice.

  4. Select the invoice you wish to apply the credit to.

    Ensure that the amount of the open credit is lower than the total amount of the invoice.

  5. Click Apply to confirm the credit application for the selected invoice.

Additional Notes:

  • The open credit can only be applied if the credit amount is less than the invoice total. If the credit amount exceeds the invoice total, it cannot be applied until adjustments are made.

  • Always double-check the remaining balance on the invoice after applying the credit to ensure accurate accounting records.
