# Confirm Bank Balances

Confirming bank balances in **Rillet** records each bank statement's closing balance at month end, so the **Cash Reconciliation Report** can check the bank feed in Rillet against your bank. Once an account has a confirmed balance, its **Ending Balance per Bank** line shows the last confirmed balance and the net bank activity since that date.

### Before You Begin

Make sure you have the following in place:

* Each account's go-live balance is set. See [**Set Up Your Cash Reconciliation Report**](/EjmEP4KZ9BVp9j2ho4Mh/cash-reconciliation/cash-reconciliation-reporting/set-up-your-cash-reconciliation-report.md).
* The closing balance from each bank statement is ready.

If you do not see **Confirm balances** on the report, contact your Rillet team to have it turned on for your organization.
{% endhint %}

### Confirm Balances

Follow these steps to confirm a balance:

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Open **Reporting** in the main navigation sidebar, then select **Cash Reconciliation** under **Close Reports**.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **Confirm balances** in the top-right corner.

<figure><img src="https://612265232-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FNpXFVFZpTQck3vIrjmHB%2Fuploads%2FundRUIwDyEihJ1Dm3htB%2Fimage.png?alt=media&#x26;token=6e42dc21-740c-413e-8e99-be2780420d87" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Add balances one of two ways:

* **Upload a statement:** drop a PDF or CSV bank statement onto the upload area. Rillet reads the closing balance for each account on the statement and fills in the rows. Check each row before you confirm.
* **Enter by hand:** select the **Account**, then enter the **Date** and the **Balance** in the bank account's currency, exactly as they appear on the statement. Click **Add account** for more rows.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **Confirm balances** once every row has an account, a date, and a balance.

<figure><img src="https://612265232-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FNpXFVFZpTQck3vIrjmHB%2Fuploads%2F5gKWOgY4OT43vmqwXMPm%2Fimage.png?alt=media&#x26;token=1f154532-0887-4746-be02-075fa46bbb6a" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="info" %} <mark style="color:$info;">**Note:**</mark>

Statement uploads accept PDFs up to 50 MB and 50 pages, and CSV files up to 10 MB.
{% endhint %}

Rillet saves the confirmed balances and shows the most recent one as the **Last confirmed balance** on the report.

### Review What Changes on the Report

Once an account has a confirmed balance, its **Ending Balance per Bank** line expands into:

| Line                       | What it shows                                                                          |
| -------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Last confirmed balance** | The most recent statement balance you confirmed, with its date in the Bank Date column |
| **Net bank activity** | Bank feed activity in Rillet since that date |

### Review or Delete Confirmed Balances

Take these steps to review your confirmed balances or remove one:

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Click **Balance history** on the Cash Reconciliation Report.

<figure><img src="https://612265232-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FNpXFVFZpTQck3vIrjmHB%2Fuploads%2FqiHoniW9YzgZI9BoK8gB%2Fimage.png?alt=media&#x26;token=34d7c543-a93f-4013-9988-43f4921240aa" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Filter by **Account**, **Date**, or **Added by**, and check the **Type** column to see whether each row is a **Go-live** or a **Confirmed** balance.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **Delete** on the row of a balance entered by mistake, then click **Delete confirmed balance**.

<figure><img src="https://612265232-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FNpXFVFZpTQck3vIrjmHB%2Fuploads%2FGhK8unV9Hka7t0WWw8G4%2Fimage.png?alt=media&#x26;token=c4effb5e-699f-4881-8d5d-4f2a74070c68" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Rillet does not let you delete the last confirmed balance of an account. Confirm another balance for that account first.

### Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

<details>

<summary>Which date should I use when I confirm a bank balance?</summary>

Use the closing date of the bank statement as the **Date**, and enter the closing balance exactly as it appears on the statement for that date. Do not use a different date for the same balance.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Should I convert a foreign-currency account's balance into my reporting currency?</summary>

Enter the balance in the bank account's own currency, not in your reporting currency, exactly as it appears on the statement.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.rillet.com/EjmEP4KZ9BVp9j2ho4Mh/cash-reconciliation/cash-reconciliation-reporting/confirm-bank-balances.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
